The Conversion Audit • Specialty 1 of 13
Most dealer VDPs convert somewhere between 0.8 and 4 percent. Where yours falls is the difference between a healthy month and a slow one.
We measure the path from ad click to lead. Every form field, every CTA position, every friction point. We tell you where shoppers are dropping out and why.
What this could be costing you right now
If your VDP converts at 1 percent and could convert at 2.5, you are leaving more than half of your possible leads on the table, without spending a dollar more on traffic.
VDP conversion rate is the single most leveraged number in dealer digital. A small lift compounds across every dollar you spend on ads, every shopper who arrives organically, and every lead routed to your CRM. The range across dealers we measure is wide.
Where you sit in that range depends on form length, CTA prominence, page speed, trust signals, and the quality of the path from ad to landing page. Use the slider to estimate the lift available, then run the scan to see your actual starting point.
Estimate the lift available from a 1-point conversion improvement.
Estimated additional leads, directional
+400 leads/mo
Current: ~480 leads/mo. With a 1-point conversion lift: ~880. Same traffic, same spend.
What nobody has told you
"Most dealer VDPs were designed by template, not by a conversion specialist. The form is long because it always has been. The CTA is below the fold because the hero image takes precedence. Nobody A/B tested it."
"The vendor measures form submissions, not abandons. So the half-completed forms, the highest-intent shoppers who bailed at field five, are invisible to everyone."
"Your CRM call connect rate hides the conversion problem. A lead is a lead in the report. Whether it came from a friction-free form or a desperate live-chat ping reads the same."
"You may have a great conversion rate. You may have a terrible one. The numbers in your dashboard cannot tell you which."
The five failures we find on almost every dealer site
On most dealer sites in this area, you almost certainly have at least three of these.
Form length above industry average
Each additional required field meaningfully reduces completion rate. Many dealer VDP forms ask for fields that the CRM does not actually require. The cost is invisible because abandons are not measured.
How we fix it: Field-by-field audit, mark optional what is optional, progressive disclosure for non-essential fields, single-step trade-in entry.
Primary CTA below the fold on mobile
On a typical mobile viewport, the price-and-CTA block often sits below a tall hero image. Shoppers scroll, get distracted by gallery thumbnails, and never reach the lead form.
How we fix it: Sticky bottom CTA bar, hero image height cap on mobile, condensed price block above the fold.
Click-to-call gaps
Phone numbers that are not tap-to-call links. Numbers that route to a tracking line that is broken. Numbers that route to the wrong department after hours.
How we fix it: tel: link audit, call tracking validation, after-hours routing test, missed-call SMS fallback.
Trade-in flow friction
Trade-in valuation tools that require account creation, redirect to a third-party domain, or load a 4MB JavaScript bundle. Each step costs you trade-in leads, which are typically your highest-converting source.
How we fix it: Inline VIN/license decoder, lazy-load valuation widget, return result on the same domain, capture lead before final number.
Zero trust signals near the CTA
No reviews, no awards, no 'we respond in X minutes' near the form submit button. Trust signals near the friction point measurably lift completion.
How we fix it: Add review snippet, response-time promise, and dealership tenure near the CTA.

What happens when you fix it
Fixing this is not a website redesign. It is a series of specific, surgical changes.

DIAGNOSIS
We give you the report
48 hours. Every finding, ranked by impact and effort, with platform-specific instructions for your CMS. You can hand it to your web vendor and they can implement most of it.
02
IMPLEMENTATION (OPTIONAL)
We do the work
If your vendor cannot or will not, we install the fixes ourselves. Most live in Google Tag Manager, the head of the page, or as a CDN-level configuration. Live in 7 to 14 days.
03
VERIFICATION
We re-run the scan
30 days after the fixes go live, we re-run the audit and confirm the lift. Site Health Score increase, category-level pass, downstream impact verified.
What the data says.
0.8% – 4%
is the typical range of VDP-to-lead conversion across dealers we measure. The best operators are 3–5x the worst on identical traffic.
~10–15%
of conversion lift is commonly achievable from form-length changes alone, without touching traffic or design.
Mobile first
60–80% of dealer VDP traffic is mobile, but most VDP designs are still optimized for desktop reading patterns.
The Proof
How a Toyota store added 142 leads/month with no extra ad spend.
A Toyota dealership in suburban Atlanta was running ~38,000 monthly VDP sessions and converting at 1.1 percent. Their VDP form had 11 fields, 8 required, and the primary CTA was 1.5 viewport heights below the fold on mobile.
We cut the form to 4 required fields, added a sticky bottom CTA bar on mobile, and inserted a 3-line review snippet above the submit button.
Conversion rate moved from 1.1 percent to 1.5 percent over 60 days. Same traffic, same media mix, same CRM. Net: 142 additional first-party leads per month.
Their gross per VDP visitor went up. Their cost per lead went down. The media team did not change a campaign.

Conversion Audit-specific questions dealers ask.
Answered straight.
How is this different from a CRO consultant?
We measure dealer-specific friction points (trade-in flow, finance pre-qual, OEM compliance copy) that generic CRO consultants do not understand. We also benchmark against an industry data set, not against generic e-commerce.
Will shorter forms hurt lead quality?
Generally no. The fields you remove are usually 'preferred contact time' or 'comments,' which the BDC asks anyway on the call. Lead quality is set by intent at the source, not by form length.
What if my OEM requires certain form fields?
We flag OEM-required fields separately and only recommend changes to fields the OEM does not require. Compliance is preserved.
Does this work with my CRM?
Yes. The fixes are at the page layer, not the CRM layer. Whatever the CRM expects, the form still submits to it.
Will my chat tool conflict with the new CTA layout?
We audit chat positioning as part of the Conversion Audit. If the chat widget is competing with the lead form, we recommend a layout that lets both work without cannibalizing each other.
How long does the free scan take?
Thirty seconds. Full report inside 60 minutes.
Does this include desktop, mobile, or both?
Both, separately scored. Mobile is weighted higher because most dealer traffic is mobile.
What platforms do you support?
All major dealer platforms. Fix instructions are platform-specific.
While we are at it
Conversion Audit is rarely the only thing wrong. Three areas dealers usually pair with this one.
The Speed Audit
Core Web Vitals, third-party tag bloat, render-blocking CSS. Slow sites burn ad budget and convert worse. We measure and fix.
Read the detailsThe Tracking Audit
GA4, GTM, Enhanced Conversions, Offline Conversion Import. If tracking is broken, every other decision is guesswork.
Read the detailsThe Inventory Audit
VDP completeness, photo counts, pricing transparency, time-to-list. The merchandising layer Google and shoppers both judge.
