The Schema Audit • Specialty 3 of 13
Structured data is how Google and AI engines understand your store. Most dealer sites ship with schema that is missing, malformed, or actively wrong.
We audit AutoDealer, Vehicle, LocalBusiness, FAQ, and Service schema across your site, validate every block, and report what is broken and what is missing.
Why broken schema costs more than no schema
Invalid schema can disqualify you from rich results, mislead AI engines, and silently drop you out of category-level eligibility.
Schema is the difference between Google understanding 'this is a car for sale at this dealership' and Google guessing. AI engines lean on it even harder. When it is missing, you are invisible to a growing share of search. When it is malformed, you can be worse off than if you shipped nothing.
Most dealer platforms ship default schema that was correct in 2018 and has not been updated since. Some platforms inject duplicate or conflicting blocks. Where you sit on this spectrum depends entirely on your CMS, theme, and any custom work done since launch.
What nobody has told you
"Your platform vendor probably ships default schema that they consider 'good enough.' Good enough for Google's old rich results is not good enough for AI search."
"Validation tools (Rich Results Test, Schema Validator) catch many issues but not all. Some errors only surface in Search Console weeks later."
"Adding new schema modules over years often produces stacked, conflicting blocks that confuse Google more than no schema would."
"You might already have clean schema. You might have a mess. The validators will tell you in 30 seconds."
The five failures we find on almost every dealer site
On most dealer sites in this area, you almost certainly have at least three of these.
AutoDealer schema missing or malformed
AutoDealer is the most important schema type for dealer sites. Missing required fields, wrong @type values, or invalid nested LocalBusiness blocks will disqualify you from Knowledge Graph eligibility.
How we fix it: Rebuild AutoDealer schema with full NAP, hours, departments, OEM brands, and validate against schema.org.
Vehicle schema missing on VDPs
Vehicle schema feeds Google Vehicle Listings and AI engines. Missing it on VDPs means inventory is invisible to those surfaces.
How we fix it: Vehicle schema on every VDP with VIN, price, mileage, photos, condition, offers, and seller reference.
Duplicate or conflicting LocalBusiness blocks
Stacked LocalBusiness, AutoDealer, and Organization blocks with conflicting NAP confuse Google's entity model.
How we fix it: Consolidate to a single canonical entity block, reference from other types via @id.
FAQ schema missing on key pages
FAQ schema is rich-result eligible and disproportionately cited by AI engines. Most dealer sites have FAQ content but no FAQ schema wrapping it.
How we fix it: Add FAQ schema to financing, service, trade-in, and high-intent model pages.
BreadcrumbList missing
BreadcrumbList schema improves how URLs render in SERPs and helps Google understand site hierarchy.
How we fix it: Auto-generate BreadcrumbList from URL structure on all category and detail pages.

What the data says.
AutoDealer
is the single most important schema type for dealer sites. Most platforms ship a partial version.
Vehicle schema
on VDPs is required for Google Vehicle Listings and strongly weighted by AI engines.
Validation matters
Invalid schema can be worse than no schema. Validators catch most but not all issues.
The Proof
How a Ford store recovered Vehicle Listings eligibility in 21 days.
A Ford dealership in the upper Midwest had been disqualified from Google Vehicle Listings due to malformed Vehicle schema on their VDPs. They had not been told. They noticed inventory traffic dropping over a quarter.
We rebuilt Vehicle schema across all VDPs with full required fields, fixed the AutoDealer block on the homepage, and added FAQ schema to financing and trade-in pages.
21 days later, Vehicle Listings eligibility was restored. Inventory-driven organic traffic recovered to baseline within 60 days. AI citations on model-specific prompts began appearing within 90 days.

Schema Audit-specific questions dealers ask.
Answered straight.
Can I just use Google's Structured Data Markup Helper?
It is a starting point but not sufficient for dealer-grade schema. Vehicle schema and AutoDealer require fields and relationships the helper does not generate cleanly.
Will adding schema slow down my site?
JSON-LD blocks are tiny. They have no measurable effect on page speed when injected correctly.
What if my platform already adds schema?
We audit what is there, validate it, and recommend either replacement or supplementation. Often the platform schema is left in place and we add what is missing.
How long until Google picks up new schema?
Typically 1–4 weeks depending on crawl priority. Search Console will show the new structured data report once Google indexes the changes.
Does this help with AI search?
Yes, significantly. Schema is the strongest signal we have measured for AI citation rate.
What platforms do you support?
All major dealer platforms. Schema is typically deployed via tag manager or platform module depending on what your CMS allows.
Is FAQ schema spammy?
Only when it is misused (FAQ schema on non-FAQ content). When applied to genuine FAQ content, it is one of the highest-ROI schema types available.
